Kia Ora Aotearoa!!
Thursday, February 22nd, 2007I arrived at Auckland about one week ago. The days have gone so fast that it has already been a week since i arrive in Auckland. I was fortunate to explore Auckland for many reasons. Church hunting, shopping and also sight seeing. Auckland is a big city but with a relax lifestyle. Imagine shops and even shopping complexes here close at 5pm! My friends and i were about to stop for Burger King when the security guard told us that they are closing for the day. And that was only 4.45pm. Kiwis really like to have their dinner at home
I guess i am lucky for various reasons. One is that i applied for three bedroom deluxe and ended up getting a three bedroom loft instead. So my room (and Alvin’s and a Petronas scholar whom we have no idea who is him yet) have a sizeable living lounge and it becomes the hang out place for my friends (Eva, Jess, Lindsay, Alvin and I). The Railway Campus that i am staying in is actually at the downtown Auckland. Though it’s an arduous climb to reach the Uni campus, it’s definitely a walk away from Britomart, something like the KL Sentral for Auckland. So It’s pretty convinient to use public transport here . Just hook up onto the internet to check on the bus route and match it with your destination and you will know where you should board the bus that will lead you to where you want to go.
The church experience in Auckland is also something that i look forward to when i come to Auckland. I went to St Benedict church last sunday, after spending a whole afternoon scouting for the bus route to the church a day before. The architecture and the facade of the buiding is magnificent. So European and somewhat Gothic. The mass was a wonderful experience. After attending SFX with contemporary and upbeat music for mass, its cool to have the good-old choir for the ear, and their voices is so good, it sounds angelic and even holy as if the voice actually comes down from Above. Their coolest part is that they sing effortlessly, as if they sing in their natural voice.
The campus is also a pleasant place too. I love the clock tower and the green lawn that is in front of the tower. I love looking at the map and search for the place that i should go. I think i would make a good explorer or even an archeologist, since i also love History a lot. But why i ended up becoming an E.T. is of course another story.
i feel so excited about writing my first blog. As English is practically my third language after Mandarin and Malay, i realise that i sound weird even as i am writing this blog. But i will try, for his sake i will strive to be my best. Will leave the ‘his’ for u guys to guess, no prize for winners. If you know who that is just keep to yourself, you know very well who is that.
Thank God for sending me to Auckland, and passing my DELNA test yesterday, and throwing me into a place full of Pakehas (Maorian word for European descent Kiwis).I hope i can make good friends with them, and live my New Zealand experience to the fullest.
